Game recap

Detroit makes 21–0 unnecessarily interesting

Detroit led 21–0 in the third quarter and still needed a failed Saints two-point conversion in overtime to escape 31–30. New Orleans scored on its overtime possession, went for the win, and couldn't complete the pass. There are calmer ways to go 1–0. Most of them involve keeping some of a 21-point lead.

Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Amon-Ra St. Brown added two touchdown catches, including Detroit's overtime score. The Lions' stars did enough; Tyler Shough and the Saints made sure they had to keep doing it.
